tattoo you!

Cara's been scheming for a couple of months. Seems that Michael has long wanted a tattoo, and Cara has long said, "No way, Jose." For his 30th birthday, she decided she'd surprise him by giving her blessing for a tattoo after all.

Last night was the night. I showed up at the tattoo parlor and waited with my camera. When Cara and Michael walked in, he was under the impression that they were just checking out prices, in case Cara ever changed her mind. When my flash went off, Michael turned around, busted into a full-out laugh, and said, "Oh! What are YOU doing here??" Took him a minute to realize I was there for him and not for me. LOL! Luke came too, to offer moral support. He's been inked several times.

Michael knew he wanted his name in Hebrew, and had already gone online and found how to write it. Lucky for us, the Jewish woman at the counter is fluent in Hebrew and was able to correct the spelling from the feminine form of Michael to the masculine form. HA! How hilarious would that've been? She also flipped the word right side up (we had it upside down) and made it read right to left instead of left to right. Seriously. How lucky is Michael that we picked a shop with a fluent Hebrew speaker working the counter? lol!
So, Michael is inked.

I wanted one, too. I knew I would, and Darren knew I would. When I left the house at 9, he said, "Don't come home with a tattoo." LOL! I told him that giving me orders like that might just make me wanna rebel. But in all honesty, even though I'd love a tiny little speck of a nose ring, and I'd consider a smallish tattoo on my ankle, I won't do either, out of respect for my husband. It's not that I'm obeying him. It's just that I love him enough to put my own desires aside. He does the same for me consistently. It's one of the reasons our marriage works so well. We respect each other immensely and make sacrifices on a regular basis.

I think it's so cool that Cara set aside her dislike of tattoos for Michael.
True love, and all that.
So. Should Darren ever change his mind.... what should I get? :D

I love the example of mutual submission you give. You put aside a desire as does your husband. That's what it's all about: not that he dominates and subordinates you but that you both submit to each other. That is much more biblical than our traditional understanding.

Oh, and by the way, both Laura and I are jealous of Michael!

Well, if Darren ever changes his mind, we can plan a field trip when you come up next year for the Midwest retreat. ;) I know a good place to get one (or 2).

Such a fun story! My husband told me that he'd do anything for me but he'd never pierce his ears OR get a tattoo, both of which I've always liked. I always went for the bad boys! For my 23 birthday he took me to a tattoo shop, I thought it was just for me, but he got one too and he's had his ear pierced for years. When he got the tattoo, he said, "I just wanted to show you I'd do anything for you now." Tattoos are adicting, be careful! I love you and Darren's relationship, they're getting more and more rare in todays society! Can't wait to see your tattoo page!

Stacy, you should go for a tattooed buttcrack since you like to show it off so frequently!

Just remember...those tattoos might not look the same when you are older and saggier...some of the suggestions here might not look all that great then! EWWW!

ah, that makes me itch even more for new ink (since i currently have 3 and 10 more planned). as for what to get, definately get something you have put thought into and come up with on your own, don't do the "flash" that they have in books/walls as you want something unique to you. something artistic and crafty is a given. or maybe your favorite flower done in your favorite color or kids favorite colors and a flower for each of them and one for Darren

I have always wanted a tattoo but have just been to chicken to get one. I keep telling myself that I'd get one If 1. I lost 50 lbs, or 2. when my mom passes (in memory of her). However, I don't think I will ever lose the weight and my mom would just haunt me for getting the tattoo!
Maybe someday though......

If you have to ask, then you're not ready yet.

Maybe he'll come around by the time you have it figured out?

Thanks for the laugh! I was laughing so hard when I read how you all had the Hebrew...how awful would it have been to have the feminine form on his back! What providence that you had a fluent Hebrew speaker at the tatoo parlour! I can't tell you how many times we see mistakes in English here and think, "If only they had asked a native English speaker..."
But what you said about Darren is what made me smile. I think it's awesome that you don't have a tatoo or a nose ring. I think it's the only reason my dh doesn't have a tatoo also! Love...so cool!
